At Spring Automation, growth isn’t just a goal— it’s a commitment we make to our people through ongoing investment and development. One of the most powerful examples of this commitment can be found within our Learning & Development (L&D) team, where training and knowledge sharing are not only encouraged but also deeply embedded into the fabric of how we work.
Training That Sets Us Apart
We are proud to offer one of the most in-depth training programs in the material handling industry. While many companies rely on generic onboarding or outdated documents, we’ve taken training into our own hands— literally. Through a blend of custom-built resources, interactive courses, and a unique combination of systems, our approach ensures every team member has the tools to succeed.
At the heart of it all is our Training Portal, a resource-rich internal platform that functions like an engineering encyclopedia. Originally developed to support the Engineering team, this platform features dedicated pages for nearly every product we work with, ranging from IO blocks and relays to VFDs and beacon lights.
What makes it so effective is the dual-layer structure, which includes both the original OEM manual and a custom-built “Spring Guide” created by our Learning and Development (L&D) team or Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). These guides strip down hundreds of pages of technical content into one to two pages of practical, relevant instruction. It means our engineers don’t waste hours scanning manuals—they get what they need when they need it, allowing them to stay focused on solving problems fast and efficiently.
Meet Atlas: Your Roadmap to Success
While the Training Portal is a robust information hub, we recognized that not everyone learns the same way. That’s where Atlas, our custom Learning Management System (LMS), comes in.
We couldn’t find an LMS on the market that met our specific needs, so we built one. Using an open-source platform as a base, our L&D team designed and implemented a fully customized LMS server from the ground up. Atlas breaks down the massive wealth of knowledge in our Training Portal into digestible learning paths. Each course includes sections, videos, walkthroughs, and knowledge checks that help reinforce learning and ensure skill retention. Employees can earn certifications upon completing specific criteria within Atlas. These certifications include a printed certificate, a medal, and a LinkedIn digital badge, making it perfect for sharing on professional platforms to showcase real achievement and skill development.
The slogan for Atlas is fitting: “Your roadmap to success.” With 24 courses currently offered and the 25th launching in July, Atlas has become a vital tool for onboarding, cross-training, and professional development. From product overviews to facility styles and wiring colors, as well as software tips for Outlook and Teams, Atlas covers a broad spectrum of practical knowledge.
A Culture of Continuous Learning
Our L&D team works closely with team leads to ensure that training is accessible, relevant, and continually improving. When a knowledge gap or recurring issue is identified in the field, it’s quickly turned into an opportunity for education. In this way, Spring’s learning culture stays agile and directly responsive to the team’s evolving needs.
Court Fiore, Spring Automation’s Learning & Development Team Lead, shares, “Over the last three years, we’ve seen the impact of structured learning environments firsthand, not only promoting growth but accelerating it.” Employees who regularly engage with Atlas show faster skill development and accelerated promotion rates. This isn’t by chance but the result of intentional investment in people and their growth. To further support peer learning, engineers regularly host Lunch and Learns at the office, which are informal, topic-specific sessions where team members can dive deeper into tools, products, and real-world applications in a collaborative setting.
Providing clear pathways to learn, grow, and take ownership of one’s development is a game-changer, not just for individual careers but for the health of our company. Our L&D approach empowers team members to step confidently onto site, take on greater responsibility, and continue contributing in meaningful ways. It’s one more way we live out our belief that when we win, we win together.
